I am Regina González Zendejas, I am 25 years old and I recently finished my studies in Environmental Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City. I am currently finishing a book that I wrote together with 4 other specialists on composting in Mexico based on my degree project, which will be published tentatively this year.
During my studies I founded the project called Ecoo Tips, which is mainly developed on instagram. It is a means of dissemination of environmental issues to promote education and culture for the care of the planet, where I give some tips on how to minimize our impact, information and also give workshops (mainly on composting and urban gardens) as well as offer powers to universities.
Regardless of my career, environmental education and environmental awareness has been something that has been instilled in me since I was very young. I have had the invaluable opportunity to travel around the country learning about various conservation and sustainable development projects focused on community work, but above all I grew up and developed in connection with nature since I am from a town called Coatepec, a small coffee town where there is a very special ecosystem known as cloud forest, being also Catemaco (another town in Veracruz 6 hours away from Coatepec) my second childhood home.
I am passionate about the development of “being” in an integral way, science and arts for me have been two tools that do not oppose each other, on the contrary they complement and strengthen each other. For 17 years I practiced gymnastics which taught me discipline and body self-control, aerial dance and currently yoga, which has allowed me to teach flexibility and strength classes virtually. Since I am from Veracruz I learned to play the jarana and zapatear, I enjoy Mexican folklore and its traditions very much.
The path of yoga and environmental awareness have led me to develop related projects, so I collaborated for a while with a local farmers market (Mercado Capital Verde) and learned the great importance of food for our bodies and for the planet and the protection of agrobiodiversity. I also have a brand of coffee called Café Sombra which comes from the farms in my town, it alludes to the agroforestry production of the coffee tree which grows under the shade of the trees of the cloud forest. I love to meet innovative, authentic projects and connect with people. I really enjoy the natural spaces and now communication.
